Christmas magic across Tameside

Christmas magic across Tameside

There has been plenty of festive cheer recently with Santa bringing Christmas magic to many local community events.

On Friday 6 December, our Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, Vikki Barry, attended the Hattersley Christmas Light Switch On 2019. Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, Tanuja Patel, provided funding from the Neighbourhoods fund for the lights and helped the organisers prior to the event.

On the night, Vikki helped set up and run a craft stall and wrote letters to Santa, as well as helping out on the stalls and speaking to the local community.

The event was very successful with a brilliant turn out despite the weather. There was a great sense of community spirit and it was great to see a variety of services working together to create a special festive event. Those involved in organising or donating to the event were TMBC, Onward Homes, local councillors and community volunteers.

Last week, Santa also brought plenty of magic to Dukinfield Pantry’s Christmas event.

There were hamper raffles, name the giant teddy bear and a tombola with festive goodies. The highlight was the local children getting to meet Santa to tell him what they wanted for Christmas before receiving a present.

The pantry provides food and household items to those in need. For £2.50 people can receive up to 12 food items from local stores. Food schemes like this are vital to help people who are struggling and to
improve financial wellbeing.

The rain didn’t put anyone off as the event was non-stop with around 100 visitors enjoying the event. The pantry raised a fantastic  £197.00.
