How our estates teams are keeping residents safe

During the period of lockdown our estate services teams have continued to operate on the frontline. Our caretakers and cleaning teams have provided cleaning services, including an enhanced daily essential cleaning in our independent living and extra care schemes to protect some of our most vulnerable tenants.

Our mobile caretakers have been carrying out increased fire checks to our general needs properties to ensure the safety of our residents as well as any essential cleaning during this time. One member of our Cleancare team also volunteered at our homeless hostel in Ashton when they were short-staffed.

Our grounds maintenance teams have assisted with increased levels of fly tipping and some operatives were initially reassigned to assist with cleaning duties within our schemes to assist in covering roles where others were shielding. This is in addition to their own site safety checks.

To enable the team to continue their duties we’ve had to look at new ways of working, taking all the government guidelines onboard. The teams have faced numerous new challenges over recent months and have adapted well, continuing to deliver essential services throughout.

Despite the circumstances, the teams have received a number of compliments during this period. One resident from Sefton said “I would
like to nominate our Caretaker for an award if you have them. He has come in every day since lockdown to provide a cleaning service to us. He’s been coming in early so half the residents don’t realise he’s been and gone before they’ve got up. It’s a case of keeping us safe and we really do appreciate that. On behalf of all the residents I would like to say thank you”.

The team has shown high morale and demonstrated their commitment over recent months despite all the challenges and changes that have been introduced and we look forward to gradually and safely increasing levels of service.
