Blooming Lovely Recognition for Gardening Groups

Blooming Lovely Recognition for Gardening Groups

The Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘Britain in Bloom’ has awarded some of our community gardening groups certificates of recognition for their hard work during 2020.

As no judging could take place and with the annual awards ceremony cancelled, the RHS deemed it appropriate to recognise everyone’s efforts. It applauded the community spirit shown in helping maintain green spaces, particularly during lockdown.

The groups who received recognition awards were:

  • Patricia Harrison and Michael Clarke (pictured) from Keeley Close in Newton Heath, who were also winner of an ‘Inspiring Others’ award
  • The Holy Trinity Women’s Group from Ashton under Lyne
  • Beatrix House in Dukinfield

Our Neighbourhood Engagement Team has supported the groups during the pandemic.  The Hit Squad team completed essential tasks and improvements to Beatrix House’s outdoor space, which involved planting, clearance and adding eight tons of bark to the beds to keep them maintained.  This has transformed the garden ready for next year’s growing activities.
