New Charter Homes is part of the New Charter Housing Trust Group which was formed in March 2000 to take over the housing stock from Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, following a successful "Yes" vote from tenants.
We are a not for profit organisation and this year obtained charitable status for New Charter Homes. We own 14,700 properties in Tameside.
We put tenants at the heart of what we do and invest any surplus funds to improve the lives of tenants. We believe in our mission which is Great Homes, Great Neighbourhoods and Great People.
This year, we obtained the Housing Quality Network Accreditation for our estates, which is a fantastic achievement for us. We continue to excel in our rent collection performance and our revenues function focuses on arrears prevention and support.
Our repairs service continues to deliver high levels of performance and we received our best ever customer satisfaction ratings last year.
In March 2012, we brought our Grounds Maintenance Service "in-house" to offer the best service for customers through Green Charter. We have already received some positive feedback from tenants.
Our community regeneration activities focus on five areas:
- Community safety
- Healthy living
- Social inclusion
- Jobs and lifelong learning
- Improving the environment
We've also launched our Great Opportunities programme which invites individuals to become volunteers in the work we do, leading to work experience and more involvement at New Charter.
In August we were delighted to obtained a silver award for best garden at the RHS Tatton Flower show, where we exhibited a show garden which young people helped to design. You can read about it here.
We have also filmed another series of Neighbourhood Watched which appeared on our screens on 16th August 2012 and will run until 20th September. This series highlights the hard work and commitment from our teams which helps make a difference to the lives of our customers and their communities.
